Sedelmaier Studios: Keeping Fresh the Old Spirit
JJS:
The hardest thing? Well, the biggest challenge is making sure that there’s always stuff going on at the studio that’s up to the studio’s expectations. There’s nothing really hard about it. It’s not even really a job.
JF:
What’s the biggest perk?
JJS:
Having the responsibility, knowing that I can’t blame anyone else. After being in a situation where I couldn’t fully take responsibility for the things that went right and wrong, that’s the thing that I value more than anything else.
JF:
Why did you choose to do what you’re doing?
JJS:
Because I seemed to be good at it and I can make a living doing it. With this enthusiasm I keep talking about, I could just as easily have been running a restaurant in Madison Wisconsin. I’m doing what I do now because I can grow in it, and it provides me and my family with everything we could possibly need.
JF:
How do I get to be where you are now?
JJS:
Don’t get yourself in a situation where you’re supporting the wrong priorities in your life. If you really have something that you want to do, and if you find somebody you want to do it with, that’s a really good thing. Decide what it is you really want to do, and go after it – not with tunnel vision, so you don’t see other opportunities, but be aware of other options, too. There’s so much to enjoy in our daily experiences, don’t shut yourself off from appreciating all the stuff that‘s around you.
